Having A Survival Checklist

What does survival mean? Survival simply means the act or process of continuing to live especially in difficult situation and circumstances. Now in order for a person to survive in different circumstances, there are actions to be taken and plans to be made. Survival is not hard but is not easy either especially in places that are known to be dangerous and poses lot of risks in one's life like in the jungle or wilderness or during emergency situations. Now what are the things that a person can do to ensure their survival in different situations? Basically, a person can make a checklist of what needs to be done in order for him/her to be equipped with the proper knowledge and skills needed for survival.

The following is a sample survival checklist that will help you to discern your preparedness level in terms of encountering different situations involving emergency, disasters and calamities:

-For situations like you are going on a hunting, hiking, fishing, canoeing, mountain-climbing trip or any other outdoor activity, do you always bring a survival kit filled with all the things necessary to use in case you get injured or get lost?

-Do you have a disaster preparedness plan that will ensure that each of your family members will be able to know where to go and how to communicate in case a disaster or calamity happens and members of your family are not in the same place during that time?

-For emergency situations, do you and your family have survival food and supplies storage not only in your home but as well as in places that you often stay like in the office, at school and in your vehicle?

-Do you make sure that your emergency survival food and supply storage contain all the important things that is needed in every emergency situations like as food and water, emergency lights, first aid kit, matches, rescue signal like whistle, batteries, cash, clothing, sanitary items, blanket, candle and survival gears and will this last for at least a couple of days?

-Do you have an emergency preparedness plan on where to evacuate in situations that leaving your house and transferring area is necessary?

-Do you check for the weather conditions in your area everyday and if there is a possibility of your location to be hit by natural disasters and calamities?

-Do you check your emergency survival food and supplies storage often to know if the contents are good and unexpired making sure that expired items are thrown away and replaced?

-Do you check to see if your yard is free from potentially harmful objects and debris that has the possibility to hit or fall on you if a calamity occurs?

*Do you make sure that all your appliances are placed and anchored to your wall securely to avoid falling off when an Earthquake happens?

-Are you and your family aware of the important emergency disaster hotline numbers to dial if in case this calamities happen in your area?

-Do you at least know how to use a compass or know how to follow directions?

-Are you aware of how to use first aid kits in the event that you or your companions get injured?

-Do you know how to use outdoor survival gears in situations like an animal attacks you or one of your companions?

Answering yes to most questions may mean that you are knowledgeable and is basically prepared to encounter emergency situations thus increasing you and your family's chance of survival. If you answered no to most questions, then it is time for you to be prepared and plan ahead for you to improve your chance of survival in any disaster and calamity situations.
