Teenagers nowadays live more healthier, promising and prosperous lives than previously. There is an increased expectancy in life as diseases that notoriously posed serious threats such as polio, typhoid and cholera are no longer an issue. Their educational levels have also improved tremendously irrespective of the gender, as more and more people are graduating from college these days. The problems facing teenagers today are more complex.
Despite all these positive advancements, teens nowadays are faced with more complex challenges than those previously. A large number of these problems that face teenagers today are behavioral. There are undeniably lots of factors that influence this incidences but these behaviors are mostly influenced by them themselves.
The challenge experienced in families is maintaining the bonds while still accommodating their busy career obligations. The lack of connection between the teenager and the parent can largely be attributed to the large rift in generational gap experienced. This could result in them feeling insignificant and stress kicking in.
Sexuality culture is being excessively promoted in the mainstream media. Study reveals that teenagers are twice as likely to emulate the sexual behavior they see in their favorite media. For instance there are those shows that try to show that the cool kids are the ones who take part in sexual intercourse.
Another challenge which keeps gaining prominence is the high number of teenagers nowadays not being subjected to the right forms of foods. Very few teens are observing proper nutrition. In fact despite an improved food situation nowadays poor eating habits is affecting everyone irrespective of their social economic endowment. There is more of a liking towards foods that are fatty and a complete disregard for vegetables and salads.
A major exposure the young ones are open to is indulgence in underage sex. There has been a proven link between teen alcoholism and sex. The television also plays a role in promotion of the same. If not well mentored they may be indulging in unprotected intercourse.

The high trends of smokers among the young is a major worry as they tend to assume that they will get rid of the behavior when they eventually matures.
